Quickdraw Panels

Years ago, Google created an app called Quick, Draw! which showed you a word, and provided an area on screen where you could then draw the item. Then it would give you another word, and another, allowing people all over the world to sketch all kinds of doodles.

And Google didn’t just convert the data into JPG’s or GIF’s. The data is in a custom format that shows the exact order that people drew the lines of the images. With the timing even!

​

There are now more than 50,000,000 (50 million) images in this dataset and google has made them all available via open-source. 

I was very intrigued by this and took the data and converted the strokes into formats I could use for CNC machine engraving and laser engraving. 

​

And I’ve created many works from this data, both large and small. 

​
